intu have become the first UK shopping centres to Get Deaf Aware.

intu chose to put the needs of their deaf and hard of hearing customers at the forefront of their strategy to become more inclusive. After detailing their training needs and providing an indication of a specified timeframe, we recommended Get Deaf Aware bespoke training for their customer facing staff.

Consisting of both Get Deaf Aware Online and face to face training, staff were able to complete the short online training first, prior to engaging in the short sessions with our professional trainer. Case study and scenario based, the face to face training allowed all staff to gain a practical understanding of deaf awareness whilst gaining some hands on experience of role play and communication tactics. Both the online and face to face training was very successful and provided a fun and informative alternative to their generic training programme. intu staff can be proud to call themselves deaf aware and ready to provide a new and improved service to their customers and colleagues.

We want our centres to be accessible and enjoyable for all our customers.

Working with Get Deaf Aware, our employees across four of our shopping centres have been trained to understand, and have the confidence to provide enhanced support for our customers who have hearing loss. We’re now developing our own deaf awareness strategy for all of our centres, as we look at becoming the accessible destination of choice in the UK and create joy for all our customers.
